The NWP promotes no single curriculum or methodology.  It promotes teacher leadership and empowerment through dialogue, confidence building, and application of best practice in the teaching of writing.  The NWP embraces the following philosophy:

•Programs designed to improve the teaching of writing must involve teachers at all levels and in all content areas.

• Meaningful change happens over time and can best be accomplished by classroom teachers.

•Teachers of writing must write.

•Student writing can be improved by the teaching of writing.

•The best teacher of teachers is another teacher.
